UNIVERSITY OF WEST SCOTLAND
Demco Interiors was commissioned by furnishing specialist Alpha Scotland to design and install their Cantilibra steel library shelving in the learning and library space at the new University of West Scotland’s £100m Lanarkshire campus.
The state of the art facility at Hamilton International Park, opened in September, has been designed to encourage new different ways of learning with different types of workspaces that are efficient, flexible and effective for learning outcomes.
Graham Black, University of West Scotland Project Director said: “We are always looking for new ways to enhance the learning experience for our students and are very aware of the need to create spaces that facilitate this.
Our new Lanarkshire Campus gives us the opportunity to offer fresh, contemporary interiors and products that are conducive to thinking, study and the exchange of information and ideas”.
The classic design, flexibility and strong durability of the Cantilibra steel library shelving makes it an ideal choice for academic interiors where ever changing environments, volume and variety of stock are a main consideration. For this project the wall mounted and freestanding shelving bays were clad in white to give a light fresh vibe balanced with bright orange end display panels to add a pop of colour. White bounce pads are securely installed, at a 60 degree angle for eye level view, onto the vertical end panels.
Sam Morgan, Senior Project Manager, Demco Interiors said: “We were delighted to work with Alpha Scotland on their specification of our universally popular Cantilibra shelving for the project. Cantilibra is a flexible shelving range manufactured in the UK at our ISO 9001 accredited plant which makes Cantilibra a very cost effective steel shelving system. As well as great value Cantilibra is also very strong which makes it a popular specification for Academic interiors where book volume is often very high. The shelves have a maximum load capacity of 60KG so even when fully loaded they will keep their shape. Added to this the classic design and white cladding gives a modern vibe to this very modern University learning space”
The learning hub is part of an exciting, state of the art campus environment to inspire students for many years to come.
