The Centre @Burnholme
Demco worked directly with Explore York, on the interior design for their brand new community hub – The Centre @Burnholme. The new Centre is located on the site of the old Burnholme Community College and is home to a reading cafe, learning spaces, a local history service and reference library as well as space for community groups.
Cllr Nigel Ayre, the council’s executive member for culture, leisure and tourism said: “The Centre @Burnholme is a fantastic facility for the local community and will provide a real hub for the wider Burnholme development.
The sensitive use of the original school building is a great example of how we can breathe new life into old buildings and I’m particularly delighted that we’re opening the newly re-located local library with all the great facilities that our modern Explore centres offer”.
The brief was to create a relaxing and inviting interior that would welcome all ages from the local community. Moving away from a traditional library space, Demco’s design team space planned their popular white Promo library shelving to weave across the ground floor, so visitors can pick up a book, access wi-fi, sit and relax or enjoy a coffee at the same time.
